Paradise Union…

… is a project by artist Marte Kiessling. Paradise Union combines her work, curational projects, text, and featured artists dealing with climate change, nature, art in the Anthropocene, paradise, plants …

Humanity long desired paradise, the mystical place from which they feel exiled and where they long to return. John Milton was not the only one who described the painful loss in his epic of the same name, Paradise Lost, the longing for the return haunts the dreams and wishes of Mankind, often via Religion, and is seen as the ultimate goal for righteous behavior. The mythical or religious paradise is a desirable goal for humans as well as the (ideological) research and search for “ideal” places that are believed to be lost such as Atlantis, Ur of the continent Mu. What type of dreams, wishes, and hopes are behind these utopias, these ideals, and hence these goals of Mankind?

The project is asking questions about the transition from the here and now to paradise, researching religious fundamentals as well as Utopias throughout human history. The main subject of the project is the problems of climate change due to pollution and the amount of waste we humans produce, the impact of this waste, and future solutions on how to deal with the outcome.
